Melbourne Dry Plates, a new undertaking to supply hand made photographic dry plates.

Melbourne Dry Plates are a small batch, hand made emulsion coated on custom sized glass.

For use in large format cameras, the recipe and techniques are just as practiced by photographers in the late 19th and early 20th Century.

I have been making my own silver gelatin emulsion and dry plate negatives for a few years now, but after collaborating with another photographer to make some dry plates for a project he was working on, I wondered if other photographers would be interested in buying them to… and so Melbourne Dry Plates was born.

The emulsion is othochromatic, and at an estimated ISO of 1 it is ultra fine grained.

My new web site is now live, and web store ready, I’m really excited to see how other photographers might use these.

I have been having great sucess using these plates with several historic printing methods (Platinum/ Palladium, Salt, Cyanotype), I have been easily able to make negatives with the correct density with appropriate exposure and development. Please visit my website for examples and to read more.
